An Israeli tourist who gave workmen an eye-full when she stripped naked in the far north town of Kerikeri has been admitted to a mental health unit after attracting police attention again.

Last week wolf-whistles from workmen prompted the 31-year-old tourist to strip before withdrawing money from an ATM machine.

The woman told police she was leaving the country but was arrested on Friday night after allegedly stubbing out a cigarette on the face of a bar worker in Coromandel, the New Zealand Herald reported.

The woman appeared in the Hamilton District Court on Saturday charged with assault with intent to injure.

She was remanded to Waikato Hospital's mental health unit.

  • It sucks but it is true,
    this goes to show . . .

Women need to remember that the world is a sexist place, and they need to learn how to "appropriately" handle such situations : (

Australia and New Zealand are infamous for sexism.
While in Israel and US (especially JAPs) women are allowed to get away with childish behavior.
    • So you are equating "sexist culture" with "not letting women get away with childish behavior" and "egalitarian culture" as "permitting women to engage in childish behavior?" You seem to be also equating "childish behavior" with "not tolerating sexism when you are the target."

I'm going to assume you were speaking off the cuff. Care to rephrase?
    • please note that wolf-whistling is also childish behavior.
      • So I guess that a sexist culture tolerates childish behavior by men but admits women to mental health units for childish behavior?

Oh, I think I'm beginning to grasp why the feminist movement is so necessary.
        • no argument here about feminism being necessary, but she wasn't sent to the looney bin for being childish. Putting out a cigarette on someone's skin is more in the category of violent assault.

I don't think angry stripping in response to wolf-whistles is childish, either. I think it was awesomely defiant and creative problem solving. Too bad it sounds like the lady is actually crazy. That puts a stigma on any of us who would otherwise be inspired to repeat her stripping as an act of protest. :)
          • I don't disagree that some sort of official inquiry (however the local authorities handle such cases given the specifics) is necessary when somebody puts a cigarette out on another human being.

My sarcasm was a response to the characterizing of sexism as a lack of tolerance for "childishness" when committed by women, and that feminism is a necessary counter to such attitudes. So you and I are on the same page Aviva.
